Attendance Information

The Brunswick Garden

Why is it important for your child to come to school regularly and on time?

Although attendance at Nursery is non-statutory it is important that your child attends regularly, unless they are ill or there are other authorised reasons for absence. Arriving on time gives your child a settled and positive start to the session.

Children who are picked up late sometimes find it distressing. If you are unavoidably late for any reason please ring us.

Ofsted monitor attendance and it is an important factor in determining our overall grade.

What are genuine reasons for absence?

  • Illness
  • Medical, dental or hospital appointments
  • Religious ceremonies
  • The Headteacher has given permission for your child to be away

If children miss days unnecessarily they miss opportunities:

  • To develop their knowledge of school routines and expectations
  • To develop social skills and friendship groups
  • To develop relationships with staff and children
  • To take part in all aspects of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, which may hinder them in their later school life

Therefore, the longer a child is away from school, the more experiences and opportunities to learn and play they will miss!

What to do if your child is away from school

If your child is absent from school, please make sure you contact us either by phone or email to let us know the reason for the absence.

Lunches have to be ordered by 9.30am, so please let us know if your child is going to be late or absent before 9.30am (please note there are no refunds for any type of absence). The reasons for non-attendance are then recorded on your child’s attendance record.

What can you do if you have problems getting your child to nursery?

If you have any problems, please come and talk to us.

Working together should ensure that your child gets the most out of their time in nursery.

We do monitor every child’s attendance. If we have any concerns, we will speak to you.

Extended absence

Brunswick Nursery School is regularly oversubscribed. If your child does not attend they are taking the place that could be benefitting another child. Think carefully before you plan an extended holiday. Please be aware that if you choose to take your child out of nursery for a period of time greater than 6 weeks then you may forfeit your nursery place.
